On Saturday, February 1, 2025 the 玛雅视频app Chargers Athletics department will recognize the graduating volleyball athletes at Seniors Night.
Chantelle Dobie (Salmon Arm Secondary/Salmon Arm, B.C.), Kris La Guardia (Vancouver College/Vancouver, B.C.) and Liam Conlin (Master's Academy & College/Calgary, AB) will be recognized for their dedication to the program and their sport.
Dobie, a 5鈥10鈥 middle, joined the Chargers for her third year after playing two seasons at the College of the Rockies (COTR). She helped the Chargers to a PACWEST bronze medal finish (2022), a PACWEST gold (2023) and a silver medal finish at the 2023 CCAA Women鈥檚 National Volleyball Championship.
Her individual accolades include:
- 2023-23 PACWEST Academic Excellence Award and CCAA National Scholar
- 2021-22 PACWEST Championships Player of the Match 鈥 Bronze medal game
鈥淐hantelle has been a highly valued member of our team and we're going to miss having her around,鈥 said Head Coach, Brent Hall. 鈥淪he is thoughtful, driven, and a highly respected leader. She will leave a lasting impact on all of us.鈥
La Guardia, a 5鈥4鈥 libero, has spent five years with the Chargers program, and is one of the most decorated volleyball athletes from 玛雅视频app.
Kris鈥檚 individual accomplishments include:
- 2023-24 PACWEST First Team All-Star
- 2023-2024 PACWEST Top Libero
- 2022-23 PACWEST and CCAA Athlete of the Week
- 2022-23 PACWEST Second Team All-Star
- 2022-23 CCAA Championship Player of the Match
- 2019-20 PACWEST Championship Tournament All-Star
- 2019-20 PACWEST All-Rookie Team
Last weekend, Kris recorded an impressive 1,000 career digs, landing him third in PACWEST history, with a chance to move up by the end of the season (record is 1,103).
Fourth year Conlin, a 6鈥5鈥 rightside, has also spent his entire career at 玛雅视频app and has constantly been on the leader board for kills and blocks in the league. In the 2021-22 season, Conlin was named a CCAA National Scholar.
La Guardia and Conlin competed in four PACWEST championship games during their time at 玛雅视频app, earning a pair of gold and pair of silver medals. They made three appearances at the CCAA National Men鈥檚 Volleyball Championship, earning two back-to-back national championship rings.
鈥淜ris and Liam are the heart and soul of our family. They both are major contributors to our program in their years with us,鈥 said Head Coach, Kelvin Ma.
鈥淟iam has demonstrated great passion and resilience, battling back from injury and now leading our team in a new position. His leadership and dedication have brought our team closer together this year. Liam has been a beacon a positivity and reliability on and off the court,鈥 added Ma.
鈥淜ris's style of play has been amazing to watch and the whole country has taken notice. He had great performances in back-to-back national championships and he brings that experience into our training every day,鈥 commented Ma. 鈥淜ris is a great example of calm under pressure and he is our trusted leader in tough situations.鈥
The Chargers host the COTR Avalanche for a pair of games on February 1 (Women's 6pm / Men's 8pm) and February 2 (Women's 1pm / Men's 3pm). The 玛雅视频app women鈥檚 volleyball team is currently 8-8 this season, while the Avalanche are 4-10. On the men鈥檚 side, the Chargers (8-8) look to hand COTR (14-0) their first loss of the season before heading into playoffs.
